The Power of Teachers

Helloooo! My name is Daisy, I´m 21 years old and I am a girl with a lot of mixed feelings and many dreams. Right now, I am studying English Teaching major in the Universidad de Costa Rica. I chose this major because I consider professors play a crucial role in society, they are the people that encourage more souls. Around the world with can find doctors, engineers, mathematics, musicians, chefs and many others professions, nonetheless, any of those occupations could be achieve without the presence of the person that shares his or her knowledge; a teacher.

I remember when I was in high school, I met a French teacher, she was a really nice person. One day, when I was having some personal issues in my life, and my mental health was declining I had class with her. She noticed that I was not myself and at the end of the class, she took some time to offered me her support, she really helped me. I remember she was very friendly and kindness, she gave me a lot of advices. Since that day, I believe teachers are able to communicate in amazing ways to people, and to make a positive mark on them.

For me, teaching is not only about to share knowledge, but also to make a little change in the world, to create happy souls and to support people to follow their dreams.

I’m very exiting about creating this blog. It is my first time creating one! So, I hope everything goes well while I experience being a blogger! As I said before, I’m a student of English Teaching major, and in this semester, I am doing my practices with a 9th-grade at the Liceo Diurno de Esparza. This experience will be super enriching in the process of creating myself a teacher. It is important to have the opportunity to have an approach with real life situations in teaching in Costa Rica.

In this blog, I will be posting experiences I’ll have related with my practices such as classes I will teach, materials I’ll use, what goes well or bad, experiences, knowledge and more! The goal is to see what I am able to do, and of course, to improve during the process.

Of course, it is a total pleasure to share this with you! Let’s begin this adventure.

You Only Fail When You Stop Trying.

It is the third time I have an approach with my students, and it's right here when I really understand that teaching has a lot of challenges. I have 30 souls in my classroom, and even I know that this is only the beginning, I feel a little blue. In those three classes, my students have behaved violently, they are hitting each other, they throw objects, or having a terrible vocabulary. Sometimes, trying to talk with them is mostly impossible. Even those are situations that can happened to any professor, an out-of-control situation sometimes is desperate. Nevertheless, I try to stay positively, after all, we don’t know why they have those behavior. As educators, we must be friendly and kindness as possible, they are just teenagers expanding themselves in their own worlds. When I met them, we did a little icebreaker activity in which they talked about their name, their residence, their age and something they like, such as their favorite hobby, favorite food, or something really import...

With Love: Teacher Daisy

I have already finished my practicum, and I have no words to explain how joyful it was. At the beginning, I felt it was something very difficult to achieve, however, then I realize when you love what you do, nothing is impossible! Passion and dedication are essential keys. Little by little I started knowing my students, some of them very quiet while others were totally the oppositive (Talkative, and full of energy.). However, that´s perfectly right, they are just teenagers and each student brings something special to our classrooms. To know different students and their amazing personalities was great! It is amazing to be the person that reinforce their knowledge. Teaching is a career in which we have to have love, patient, be kindness, and empathy to connect with our students. It is essential to take the time to understand them in order to help them not only in their knowledge, but also to be the better version of themselves. During my practicum period, we studied units abo...
