A Big Step in Becoming Teachers

While we had a dept semester, achieving different responsibilities such as cursing different courses, attending our practicum in different high schools in Puntarenas, creating planning and activities, we received a good new. The coordination of our major along our professor provided us an incredible opportunity: The chance to obtain a English Language certification in the INA (Instituto Nacional de Aprendizaje).

As most of us know, having a certification on a second language is really important in order to demonstrate what we are capable of. This certification becomes an essential asset in showcasing our proficiency, especially as future English teachers.  When our professor told us we were to have the opportunity to course this certification progress, involving different evaluations, we were super exited!

By two weeks, we had appointments on the place. We completed different listen and speaking test, which are done in order to evaluate the level of each student. Grateful, most of the group had high levels, such as C1 advanced level. The results reflected the hard work we’ve put into our education.   This certification becomes super essential in order to demonstrate our proficiency, especially as future English teachers

Moreover, this demonstrates that our university has made an incredible job creating new professionals, in this case, teachers!

We are very happy for the opportunity and for the results, we feel ourselves full of pride and confidence.

In conclusion, this certification has become to an important step to become ourselves as educators. It shows our skills and the great education we’ve received from our university. Last but not least, it encourages us to keep working hard to be the best teachers we can be.

The Power of Teachers

Helloooo! My name is Daisy, I´m 21 years old and I am a girl with a lot of mixed feelings and many dreams. Right now, I am studying English Teaching major in the Universidad de Costa Rica. Around the world with can find doctors, engineers, mathematics, musicians, chefs and many others professions, nonetheless, any of those occupations could be achieve without the presence of the person that shares his or her knowledge; a teacher. I remember when I was in high school, I met a French teacher, she was a really nice person. One day, when I was having some personal issues in my life, and my mental health was declining I had class with her. She noticed that I was not myself and at the end of the class, she took some time to offered me her support, she really helped me. I remember she was very friendly and kindness, she gave me a lot of advices. Since that da...

You Only Fail When You Stop Trying.

It is the third time I have an approach with my students, and it's right here when I really understand that teaching has a lot of challenges. I have 30 souls in my classroom, and even I know that this is only the beginning, I feel a little blue. In those three classes, my students have behaved violently, they are hitting each other, they throw objects, or having a terrible vocabulary. Sometimes, trying to talk with them is mostly impossible. Even those are situations that can happened to any professor, an out-of-control situation sometimes is desperate. Nevertheless, I try to stay positively, after all, we don’t know why they have those behavior. As educators, we must be friendly and kindness as possible, they are just teenagers expanding themselves in their own worlds. When I met them, we did a little icebreaker activity in which they talked about their name, their residence, their age and something they like, such as their favorite hobby, favorite food, or something really import...

With Love: Teacher Daisy

I have already finished my practicum, and I have no words to explain how joyful it was. At the beginning, I felt it was something very difficult to achieve, however, then I realize when you love what you do, nothing is impossible! Passion and dedication are essential keys. Little by little I started knowing my students, some of them very quiet while others were totally the oppositive (Talkative, and full of energy.). However, that´s perfectly right, they are just teenagers and each student brings something special to our classrooms. To know different students and their amazing personalities was great! It is amazing to be the person that reinforce their knowledge. Teaching is a career in which we have to have love, patient, be kindness, and empathy to connect with our students. It is essential to take the time to understand them in order to help them not only in their knowledge, but also to be the better version of themselves. During my practicum period, we studied units abo...
